Reunion with Vetch

Ged arrives at Iffish, the home island of his friend Vetch. He is not welcomed by the townspeople, who sense the doom upon him. He meets Vetch in the street, and Vetch initially mistakes him for the shadow, which has been appearing in Ged's shape. They are reunited, and Vetch insists on accompanying Ged on his quest. Ged tries to refuse, but Vetch argues that someone must bear witness. They sail together from Iffish, heading east into the Open Sea. Yarrow, Vetch's sister, watches them go from the dock.
