Vetch's farewell

Vetch, now a wizard, comes to say goodbye to Ged before leaving Roke. He returns the otak, Hoeg, to Ged. Vetch tells Ged his true name, Estarriol, a gift of ultimate trust. In return, Ged tells Vetch his own true name. This act of friendship restores some of Ged's faith in himself. Vetch encourages him, saying he sees far seas and the fire of dragons in Ged's future. After Vetch leaves, Ged feels a sense of peace and remembers his own naming ceremony. He is seventeen years old and feels a sense of wholeness for the first time since the disaster.
