Aftermath of the Violation

Yozo cannot forgive or blame Yoshiko. He is tormented by the defilement of her trustfulness, which he considers a sin. He resumes heavy drinking, his cartoons become pornographic, and he begins to suspect Yoshiko of further infidelities. His health deteriorates, and he becomes increasingly isolated and despairing.
