Life at the Kyobashi Bar
Yozo lives above the bar in Kyobashi, treated kindly by the madam and customers. He continues to drink heavily and draws pornographic cartoons for cheap magazines under a pseudonym. He feels a desperate craving for 'great savage joy' but finds only meaningless chatter and liquor. His fear of human beings persists, and he must fortify himself with drink before facing the customers.
