Yozo sends Tetsu to buy sleeping pills, but she returns with a laxative. He takes ten pills, thinking they are sleeping pills, and suffers from diarrhea all night. When he realizes the mistake, he laughs at the absurdity of his situation. He concludes that 'reject' must be a comic noun.
