After stealing and pawning Shizuko's clothes, Yozo returns home to overhear Shizuko and Shigeko happily playing with a rabbit. Realizing he is an intruder in their happiness, he silently leaves and does not return. He goes to a bar in Kyobashi, where the madam takes him in as a kept man.
