morning, Part I

Delivering the Manuscript

The narrator leaves his room, bowing to the advertisements. He wraps his green blanket in paper at Semb's shop, pretending it contains vases for Smyrna. He goes to the newspaper office and gives his manuscript to 'Scissors,' asking him to give it to the editor. He then wanders the city, killing time. He meets 'Missy' and lies about being a bookkeeper at Christensen's. He feels his confidence in the story waning and rushes back to the office, but the editor hasn't read it yet.
