Giving Away the Money

The next day, the narrator feels guilty about the stolen money. He goes to the bazaar to buy a second-hand waistcoat but is distracted. He meets an acquaintance and lies about his engagement to Ylajali. The stolen money weighs on his conscience. He decides to give it away to the cake woman near the chemist's. He feels relieved and honest again. He then becomes intoxicated with happiness and takes a droske on a wild ride, pretending to look for a man named Kierulf. He ends up in a strange lodging-house.
