Captain Flume Lives in the Woods

Captain Flume, the squadron's public-relations officer, is so terrified of Chief White Halfoat's threat to slit his throat that he abandons his trailer and lives in the woods. He survives on berries and food smuggled from the mess hall. His existence is a parody of the survivalist ideal, showing how fear can drive a person to a primitive, miserable existence.
