The syndicate, M & M Enterprises, is Milo's creation, a global cartel in which everyone is said to have a share. The syndicate is a parody of capitalism, showing how the pursuit of profit can override all other considerations, including loyalty and morality. It is the ultimate expression of the novel's theme of institutionalized greed.
