Yossarian Returns to the Squadron

Yossarian returns to his tent, which he shares with Orr, a bizarre and resourceful roommate who is constantly tinkering. The tent also contains the belongings of a dead man, Mudd, who was killed before he could officially report to the squadron. Yossarian is haunted by Mudd's presence, a constant reminder of death. He finds the mess hall transformed by Milo Minderbinder, the new mess officer, who serves gourmet meals. Yossarian gorges himself but then runs to Doc Daneeka, demanding to be grounded, only to learn that Colonel Cathcart has raised the required missions to fifty.
