Yossarian Runs Away to Sweden
Inspired by Orr, Yossarian decides to desert and run away to Sweden. He jumps out of the hospital window, narrowly avoiding another attack by Nately's whore. Major Danby and the chaplain encourage him, giving him money and their blessing. Yossarian's escape is a leap of faith into the unknown, a final, desperate act of self-preservation. It is an open-ended conclusion, suggesting that while the system is inescapable, the individual can still choose to resist, even if the outcome is uncertain.
