Yossarian Receives a Medal Naked

General Dreedle arrives to pin a medal on Yossarian for his heroism at Ferrara. Yossarian, traumatized by Snowden's death on the Avignon mission, stands naked in formation. General Dreedle is initially baffled but ultimately amused, and he presents the medal anyway. Colonel Cathcart is horrified, but the incident becomes another 'black eye' for him. Yossarian's nakedness is a powerful act of protest, a refusal to participate in the charade of military honor after witnessing the horrific reality of death.
