The Brothel Is Raided

M.P.s raid the brothel in Rome, chasing all the girls out into the street. The old woman who runs the place tells Yossarian they did it because of Catch-22. The raid is a brutal, arbitrary act of authority, destroying the only home many of the girls had. It leaves Nately's whore's kid sister homeless and vulnerable, and it is the final blow that pushes Yossarian to desert. The raid demonstrates that Catch-22 is not just a logical paradox but a tool of power that can be used to justify any action.
