O'Brien plays Winston's recorded promises

O'Brien plays a sound-track of the conversation in which Winston promised to commit murder, sabotage, and every kind of betrayal for the Brotherhood. Winston hears himself offering to throw vitriol in a child's face. O'Brien then tells Winston to get up and stand before a three-sided mirror. The recording strips away Winston's moral superiority, and the mirror reveals his physical ruin. O'Brien asks if Winston still considers himself superior, and Winston says yes, but the demonstration has shown his hypocrisy.
