Winston is imprisoned in the Ministry of Love

Winston finds himself in a high-ceilinged, windowless cell with walls of glittering white porcelain and four telescreens. He is hungry and has a dull ache in his belly. He has already spent some hours in an ordinary prison, crowded with common criminals, where he heard political prisoners whisper about something called 'room one-oh-one.' He sits as still as he can, trying not to make unexpected movements. The light never goes out, and he understands now why O'Brien spoke of 'the place where there is no darkness.'
