Winston rents the room above the shop
Winston decides to rent the room above Mr Charrington's shop so that he and Julia will have a permanent hiding-place. Mr Charrington makes no difficulty about it and even mentions that there are two entries to the house, one through the back yard. He speaks with delicate tact about Winston's need for privacy. Winston knows that it is folly, conscious and suicidal folly, to have such a place. But the temptation of a hiding-place that is truly their own, indoors and near at hand, is too much for both of them.
